  • "Sadh Sangat means the company of disciplined spiritual people. Sadh comes from Saddhu (a Sadhu is one who does Sadhana), and Sangat means a group of people gathered together for a purpose. The best translation of Sadh Sangat is "the company of people who do Sadhana" or "the company of the holy." The principle of Sadh Sangat is simple. When people who do Sadhana come together, the group aura is very powerful and this stimulates the meditative energy of all, and produces an uplifting and inspiring atmosphere. Coming together in community to do Sadhana, kirtan, meditation, and yoga enhances the effects of all for all."

  • The Golden Temple, known as Harmandir Sahib, holds a legacy dating back to 1577 when Guru Ram Das, the fourth Sikh Guru, completed its man-made pool (sarovar). In 1604, Guru Arjan installed a copy of the Adi Granth within its sanctum. This sacred place, with its square layout and four entrances, symbolizes Sikh principles of equality and openness to all. It stands as an open house of worship, welcoming people from diverse backgrounds and faiths.

Every day, the rituals at the Golden Temple honor the Guru Granth Sahib as a living entity. At night, during the closing rite known as sukhasan, after devotional kirtans and prayers, the scripture is reverently carried to its resting place in the Akal Takht. In the morning, during the opening rite called prakash, the Guru Granth Sahib is brought back to the sanctum amidst chanting and ceremonial music. A page is randomly opened, marking the mukhwak of the day, whose message guides the pilgrims who visit throughout the day.

  • In his divine wisdom, Guru Amar Das sought to create a sanctuary where Sikhs could cleanse their souls. Thus, he commissioned the excavation of a baoli—a deep water reservoir—where devotees could undergo a purification ritual.

Guru Amar Das oversaw the construction of the baoli with exactly 84 steps. This sacred number symbolizes spiritual ascent and the journey towards liberation from the cycle of rebirths.

At the heart of Goindwal's spiritual significance lies the practice prescribed by Guru Amar Das himself: ascending the 84 steps while reciting Japji Sahib at each step. This is a sacred commitment to inner guidance and spiritual elevation.

This practice invites you to experience true liberation through devotion and surrender to the divine will. It opens the heart's center.
